Before a Senate common reading in Madison, Milwaukee transgender athlete shares her story.

MILWAUKEE- Luna Volperossa began playing rugby for a pastime league in Milwaukee about one-and-a-half years before.

It has been little short of incredible. I’ve met some amazing people and sportsmen, according to Volperossa. ” The level of talent, the dedication, all about it has been incredible.”

She has gained confidence in her new sports, but she did n’t always feel that way. In fact, she did n’t feel at all at ease playing sports as she grew up.

Volperossa remarked,” I was born and raised thinking male, and when I saw male sports, it just did n’t appeal to me.” My mother probably would n’t have appreciated me coming home and acting like I wanted to be a cheerleader, but cheerleading kind of interested me.

She claimed that since she came out to her friends on her children’s sports team, they have only been accepting of her.

They all hugged me and said they accepted me when they heard about it, saying they did n’t give a damn. I simply do n’t believe it to be true, she said of her experience, when I hear people say it devalues women’s sports.

Volperossa feels like she missed out on the opportunity to participate in youth sports, and she does n’t want others to do the same because of the legislation that is currently being debated at the state level.

Costs that would limit trans athletes ‘ ability to participate in youth activities at publicly funded classrooms will be the subject of a public hearing in the Wisconsin State Senate on Wednesday. The legislature has now passed the costs. If the policy makes it to Governor Evers ‘ table, he has promised to veto it.

Volperossa, who recognizes the significance of youth sports for young people to form bonds and gain confidence, hopes that the legislation wo n’t advance very far. She claimed that participating in sports has “been the most gender-affirming encounter” for her physically.

She remarked,” I may look like any one of these folks and still be a woman because I see women of all sizes participating in sports and performing so well at them.

She hopes that through gymnastics, all children may experience the same thing, regardless of how they identify.
