Users of Milwaukee’s trans community are experiencing anxiety at the moment.
They claim that anti-trans policy is targeting them and that they are worried about an increase in crime directed at them. Activists are concerned about the growing threat to trans health as a result.

A doctor that specializes in the treatment and prevention of HIV is called Vivent Health. The center also provides patients with gender-affirming care, which is the kind of medical care that several nonbinary and transgender people need to change their gender.

According to some proponents, regulations that targets transgender people increases their risk of violence.
Elle Halo, a board member of the Wisconsin-based nonprofit Unique &, Resilient, which seeks to improve the health and social capital of persons of LGBTQ+ identities, said that when discussing trans existence, we must also discuss safety.
Halo is also a member of the Black transgender women’s organization Sisters Helping Each Other Battle Adversity ( SHEBA ), which meets for social support, health care, and leadership development.
Halo and another trans rights activists are worried about the city’s recent increase in trans deaths.
Milwaukee began to experience a troubling trend in 2022 when four transgender people, all of whom were Black, were killed.
According to the Human Rights Campaign, a national organization that conflicts for good treatment and equal rights for LGBTQ+ individuals, trans women of color, especially those who are Black, are disproportionately affected by dangerous crime.
Since June 2022, Chyna Long was the third Black trans girl to die in Milwaukee. She was shot numerous times on the Northwest Side of the city, where she passed away on October8.
Long, a 30-year-old composer and Milwaukee native who attended Washington High School, loved to dance.
Long passed away following the murders of Cashay Henderson, 31, Regina” Mya” Allen, 35, and Brazil Johnson, 28. All three of them were transgender Black people who were shot and killed between 2022 and 2023 over the course of nine months.
According to SHEBA, Milwaukee had never witnessed a Black trans woman being murdered before 2022 in 12 times. However, 26-year-old Chanel Larkin, a SHEBA part, was shot and killed on North 23rd Street in 2010.
Johnson’s demise has not been linked to any suspects. But in the circumstances of Long, Allen, Henderson, and Larkin, charges have been brought.
None of the murders, including Long’s dying, were looked into as hate crimes, according to the Milwaukee Police Department.
The Milwaukee Police Department said in an email that it did not think they were targeted when asked if being a transgender woman contributed to their murders.
Unusual congressional assaults
Laws restricting or outlawing gender-affirming health care for transgender people up to the age of 26 have just been passed in about 22 states. The American Civil Liberties Union reports that 507 payments have been put forth that specifically target LGBTQ+ and transgender rights.
Republicans in Wisconsin have pushed costs of a similar nature as well, despite Gov. Tony Evers has vowed to reject them.
Although I do n’t like to make assumptions about the cause, I believe we can see that the rise in violence against transgender and gender-difference individuals is undoubtedly coming to a head with the emergence of anti-transGender rights legislation, according to Hill.
The Board of Supervisors decided to make Milwaukee County a haven for transgender and nonbinary individuals in September.
However, proponents contend that more work is required.
There is a political culture war going on, but our girls do n’t necessarily give it top priority when they’re concerned about having access to food and housing, safety on the streets, and the chance to lead healthier lives, according to Halo.
According to Halo, this means that all Milwaukeeans, not just trans women, may deal with gun violence, racism, sexism, and poverty.

Our social climate, according to transgender activist Yante Turner, has alienated a group of people that “you may politically, socially, and morally demand.”
Turner is the leader of the Black trans-led anarchist Sun-Seeker MKE Collective, which educates Milwaukeeans through society involvement.
Turner emphasized how crucial it is for trans people to be accessible in the neighborhood. His group travels to areas where anti-trans crime has taken place and distributes farm fresh food. He claimed that this humanizes transgender individuals.
Many of these violent acts against transgender people also occur in the city’s most underdeveloped Postal codes, according to Turner.
