A natural woman who identifies as a man in Chicago filed a federal lawsuit against a former boss and coalition over a health program that denied insurance for transgender shoulder removal surgery.
Morgan Mesi filed suit against Breakthru Beverage Illinois after being denied insurance for a diplomatic double surgery and hormone treatments.

A report in Qwear Media, an advertising company that features LGBT stories, described Mesi as a” trans, nonbinary, and genderqueer type seeking to bring awareness to the trans neighborhood”.
Along with the wine distribution business, Mesi named Regional 3 Booze and Allied Workers Union in the complaint.
According to the petition, Mesi started seeking mental health sessions about gender dysphoria in November 2016 and started taking hormone in 2017 — the same year Mesi started looking into the twin breast, which some call a” best procedure”.
” This complaint is about my right to control my body free from discrimination”, Mesi said at a news conference, calling the treatments and medications “medically necessary”.
By 2018, Mesi received a program rejection notice, in which the coalition directed the health insurance company to dispute coverage for the procedure, labeling it as plastic. After a unsuccessful appeal, the coalition clarified that it only covers twice mastectomies for cancer, a family history of tumor, or related conditions.
Treatment for female change hormones was likewise denied, according to the complaint.
The lawsuit also includes doctors ‘ papers saying the techniques were clinically required for Mesi and an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission finding that Breakthru Beverage probably had acted illegally. Mesi accuses the business of violating Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and Illinois rules.

In Bostock v. Clayton County, the US Supreme Court decided in 2020 that those who assert trans identity are covered by Title VII’s concept of sexual discrimination. Following that incident, a federal lawsuit from Georgia ruled that it is unfair to deny gender transition practices.
Refusing to include these medical interventions in staff healthcare plans violates the government’s civil rights laws, according to an Illinois Human Rights Commission decision from 2022.
