Team Abad’s Coat Drive, now in its ninth season, serves trans men and women in search of resources and coats in addition to another winter clothing.
According to Julisa Abad, the Fairer Michigan Justice Project’s director of transgender engagement and advocacy, there are many things that people need and take for granted. She informs CBS News Detroit that those who identify as trans in the community will also receive a warm meal as remembrance of the holiday season.
Given that the celebration has been going on for almost ten years, according to Abad, there is almost an assumption of it. She claims that the necessities she offers support people outfit themselves during a time of year when they require more clothes than usual.
Therefore, outside of the coat, only the things you need in order to live and thrive,” Abad said.” But, if you experience homelessness, hot socks, clean healthy socks; hand warmers; cut kits; toiletry items; toothpaste, toilet paper mouth wash.
At 928 W McNichols Dr. in Detroit, the event is open until 9 p.m. on Saturday.
You can call Abad at [email protected] or visit her group’s GoFundMe page if you’re interested in donating garments, winter products, cosmetics, or other things.
