Megan Riley Lewis was happiest dancing at music festivals or hiking mountains, and she signed her letters with the phrase “Be sparkly.”
On Tuesday evening, more than 100 people gathered outside the Harford County Circuit Court building in Bel Air for a celebration in honor of Lewis, the transgender girl who was shot and killed on December 27 in the parking lot of her apartment complex.
She “made some trans people feel like there was a spot they had belong,” according to Ruby Miller, an undergraduate sophomore. “In this world, being seen as threatening is frequently perceived as being trans,” she said. “I believe Meghan would really want us to hang onto the society she saw in each of us.”
Lewis, according to Harmonie Schiff, dreamed of starting a retirement home for transgender women and gave her the second bouquets of flowers and jewelry she ever received.
Schiff remarked, “Chat about affirmation.” “Often remain bright.”
With pal Tina Castle playing the guitar, Schiff led the group through “Ripple” by the Grateful Dead. Because she was Lewis’ “trans sister,” according to friend Zosia Zaks, he called her “Radio.”
Most of you are going to nod in agreement when I tell you that Meghan showed up during a very trying moment. According to Zaks, Megan had a talent for appearing in your life only when you needed her the most.

Following a fight, believe Brian Michael Delen, 47, shot Lewis in the lower torso, according to authorities, and is being charged with second-degree death. He was immediately detained without a connection at the Harford County Detention Center, but on Friday, he was released on his own custody. Jan. 25 is the date set for a initial hearing.
“I’m a much perplexed as to why the person who killed her now enjoys liberty.” Renee Lau, a accommodation director at Baltimore Safe Haven, said, “And I ask the attorney general’s office to look into why this person is allowed to be free.” “Meghan lost her life as far as I’m concerned because of a love violence.”
