(NewsNation) – The USA Boxing rulebook’s updates have sparked criticism of the federation for its treatment of transgender athletes.
Although it was written in 2022, the scheme was added to the union’s rulebook this week. The International Committee Framework on Fairness, Inclusion, and Non-Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity and Sexual Variations, which was adopted in November 2021, serves as its foundation. With the help of this model, transgender athletes’ eligibility can be determined by the global federation for each sport.
USA Boxing’s overarching goal is the safety of all athletes and fair competition between all boxers, according to a statement made by the organization in August 2022. “Boxing has no determined transgender eligibility, and fighting is considered a combat sport.”
Michigan saw the sale of a second Lotto ticket for $842.4 million.
Minors must compete in accordance with the federation’s scheme as the sex assigned to them at birth.
According to the policy, a normal range of testosterone for adult boxers is considered to be greater than 10 nanomoles per liter (nmol/L) for male athletes and less than 3.1 nmol/L for female athletes. These numbers are partially based on research from the Harvard Medical School Teaching Hospital and the Boston Children’s Hospital Sports Medicine Division.
According to the plan, a boxer who has “declared that her gender identification is feminine” and undergone gender reassignment surgery is eligible to compete. Male-to-female boxers are also required to have their hormone levels documented for at least four years following surgery, undergo monthly hormone testing, and provide USA Boxing.
Additionally, they must demonstrate that for at least 48 weeks prior to their first competition and the entire time they compete in the female category, their hormone levels have been below 5 nmol/L.
On a rolling basis, the Jeffrey Epstein listing will be opened.
Testing at the player’s cost will be used to monitor compliance. A non-compliant player’s eligibility for adult competition will be suspended by the federation for a full year. After that time, the player’s hormones may be tested once more.
Athletes who switch from being female to male must meet the exact requirements, with the exception that their hormone levels must stay above 10 nmol/L.
One of the people who criticized the policy as cruel was boxer Mikaela Mayer.
Mayer wrote on X, “Hormone treatment is banned.” “By default, this ought to render trans athletes unsuitable for competition.” Regardless of how you feel about the situation, it is unlawful and severely disrupts the level playing field that sport has worked so hard to create.
Some feared that the plan had unfairly favored transgender female athletes and put athletes in danger.
NewsNation sent an email asking for comment, but USA Boxing didn’t respond right away. The rules, according to the union, were established to “provide justice and protection for all boxers.”
