According to the trans community in Kolkata, there has been an influx of individuals from the same neighborhood in Bangladesh who have been violently abusing them and trying to drive them out of their home countries.
Many hijras have relocated from Bangladesh to Kolkata and various locations in West Bengal over the years. They are attempting to change the local woman community with force. Ranjita Sinha, chairman of the Association of Transgender/Hijra and the spokesperson for the trans gay society in Kolkata, says there will soon be violence between groups of hijras in West Bengal as they attempt to annex the lands of our hellos.
“Just now, there was an assault on our transsexuals in the Baruipur area. Kajol, their leader, who is over 70 years old, was not exempted. What will happen to our people’s way of life if those from Bangladesh take over all of our neighborhoods, and what will they have?” Ms. Sinha, who has served on community-related Central and State systems, said.
On Tuesday, a team led by her is to go to the Baruipur police station to complain, and if nothing is done, they will sit on dharnas. “We Hijras in Baruipur are a troubled group,” they say. “Despite the fact that we have been here for hundreds of years, the Bangladeshi transvestites are currently oppressing us. They are attempting to evict us and are not letting us work. Where are we going?” Kajol, the senior-most resident of the Baruipur group, who brought her grievance to Ms. Sinha, said.
“Why should we become victims of politics or religion if we don’t belong to any political party or any religion?” According to Ms. Sinha, who has been involved in a number of gender-related fights, including personal ones, the State authorities should immediately stop the influx of transvestites from Bangladesh and protect them.
