After Lt. Governor., a trans senator stormed out of the Virginia Senate chamber in opposition. On Monday, Winsome Sears referred to the senator as” sir.”
Sen. Danica Roem, a Democrat, is the first transgender people to assist in the Virginia legislature despite her gender identity. During a public conference on Monday afternoon, Roem asked a question regarding a piece of policy.
How many seats, Madame President, did it take to complete a bill with an emergency section? Roger posed a question.
Sears responded,” That would be four-fifths, Senator.”
And what would be the precise amount of that, Madame President? Roger posed a second question.
That would be 32, Sears said,” Yes, sir.”
The speaker was finally turned off and Roem could be heard leaving the room. Moments later, the senator did not cast a ballot in the slide call vote.
Later in the session, Sears offered an apology for the affair, though she did not specifically apologize for making reference to Roem by the lawmaker’s biological sex.
Sears claimed,” I disturbed Sen. Roem.” Let it be known that I’m not here to annoy people. I’m here to fulfill the promise that the Virginians have given me, and that is to treat people with dignity and respect. I have also been given some instances of not having that equal respect and dignity.
However, she continued,” I will be treated with respect and dignity as president of the Senate and by the grace of God, and I will treat everyone else with respect and dignity,” she continued. She said,” It is never my intention to offend anyone, and I hope others will take it upon themselves to try not to annoy me as well,” adding,” I hope that others will try not to annoy me as well.” We are all treated equally by the rules. And so I make an apology, I make an apology, and I hope that everyone will know that we are not trying to offend but that we will also be able to accept one another.
” I have seen us act in ways that we would not ordinarily expect from our own children or nephews or cousins, and I do hope that we would take this opportunity to be kind to one another, to be polite to one another, and to be about the women’s business,” she said.
Fox News Digital reached out to Roem for comment on the event but received no response.
