A member who exposed a “transgender person” shaving in the female locker room has been banned from Planet Fitness, but the company has refrained.
The statement, which was shared by the Libs of TikTok Twitter account, said although some members might feel uneasy sharing facilities, “This discomfort is never a reason to deny access to the transgender member.”
Patricia Silva described an event at her Alaska gym where she saw a trans woman shaving in her bag place after the comments were made.
Silva had just finished working out at Planet Fitness’ Fairbanks place, when she saw the man, whom she called “a man with a penis,” carrying out his routine in front of a 12-year-old girl.
Torres, who has recently run for Fairbanks Borough Assembly, claimed that the “trans person” may actually be using the female locker room.
The transgender girl retorted they were “LGBT.”
Silva shared a photo of the individual online. And she described her experience in a Facebook post because she was so shocked by what she saw.
“I just came out of Planet Fitness. There is a person shaving in the children’s bath. I love him in Christ,” Silva began. “He is a spiritual being having a human experience. He doesn’t like his gender so he wants to be a woman, but I’m not comfortable with him shaving in my bathroom. I just thought I’d say it out loud.”
Silva, who has shared QAnon conspiracy theories on social media, also described the incident in a written article online.
“I went to Planet Fitness… Walked in the bath, and there stands a MAN shaving… I looked at him, said ‘hey’ … he looked up … and I said, ‘You are a man shaving in the women’s toilet, and I am never OK with that.’
‘He replied … ‘Well, I’m LGBT…’
‘Whatever that is … however, I told him ‘You’re a MAN and you’re invading my space!’
‘He wanted to argue to justify why he can be there … I walked away…
I walked out of the locker room and yelled at the front desk, “I’m not okay with that… I’m not okay that there is a MAN shaving in the children’s bathroom!” The two men were standing at the desk, their faces hung down, and their tails were tucked between their legs. As I was walking out the door…at my up, a person shouts ‘it’s a lady’… I shouted back ‘it’s a man!’ ‘
‘PF cancelled my membership and allowed the pedo to stay ‼️,’ she stated.
Silva was removed from Planet Fitness’s membership and subjected to a police report alleging that she had violated the facility’s policies by taking photos and/or videos in the locker room.
Her actions clashed with the gym’s commitment to “creating an inclusive and safe environment.”
The same phrase was used by Libs of TikTok to share a statement from Planet Fitness. They doubled down on their decision.
The gym claimed in their statement that the staff should “work with members and employees to address this discomfort [sharing facilities with transgender members] and foster a climate of understanding consistent with Planet Fitness’ Judgment Free character.”
The statement continued: “Planet Fitness staff shall strive to address transgender members with names, titles, pronouns, and other terms consistent with their self-reported gender identity if reasonably known to the Planet Fitness staff.”
A transgender woman shall be referred to by her preferred name and female pronouns, according to the statement.
A transgender man is also referred to by his preferred name and male pronouns.
The statement concluded that the gym “reserves the right to terminate a person’s membership immediately for any violation of this policy.”
When DailyMail.com inquired about their policy with Planet Fitness, they reiterated the statement that was made after Silva became popular.
Planet Fitness is committed to creating an inclusive environment as the location of the Judgement Free Zone. Our gender identity non-discrimination policy states that members and guests may use the gym facilities that best align with their sincere, self-reported gender identity,” it read.
The member who posted on social media allegedly violated our mobile device policy, which forbids photo capturing of people in the locker room, and their membership was terminated.
The decision to make Planet Fitness drew criticism and comment from Tesla’s Elon Musk and Utah Congressman Phil Lyman.
Lyman wrote: “transgender rights ‘supersede women’s rights.'”
Musk exaggerated in a video that Silva had made.
Other users’ opinions of Planet Fitness’ actions were much more direct.
One person wrote on X.com, formerly known as Twitter, “Planet Fitness is not safe for women. Change your membership and start lifting some free weights. Cheaper and less travel time.”
Another user said: “Give Planet Fitness the Bud Light treatment, cancel your membership, and let them know why.”
Another person echoed this sentiment: “Well, Planet Fitness deserves the Bud Light treatment.”
Someone claimed that they had taken action, writing: “I’ve canceled my membership. #BoycottPlanetFitness.”
Another user penned: “‘A transgender shall be referred to by her preferred name and female pronouns.’ This is what’s known as forced speech and it’s unconstitutional. If we had a real DOJ, they’d prosecute this assault on the First Amendment. #BoycottPlanetFitness.”
