Flag raising, service to increase awareness, and pride lives are all part of the Transgender Day of Remembrance.

Redwood City: Now, the Board of Supervisors declared November 20 to be San Mateo County’s Transgender Day of Remembrance.

On November 15, the County will hold a common flag-raising meeting at 4 p.m. to commemorate those who have died or been the victims of violence due to their gender identity or sex appearance. At Veterans Boulevard, Redwood City’s entrance to County Center, the transgender symbol may be flown.

According to Dave Pine, president of the Board of Supervisors, San Mateo County is dedicated to defending everyone’s freedom from injury and oppression. ” We observe Transgender Day of Remembrance as a grave situation where we recognize everyone who has died or been the victim of crime because of their gender identity or gender representation.”

Every year in late November, Transgender Day of Remembrance is observed in honor of Rita Hester’s 1998 death. In her hometown of Boston, where she worked on trans issues in education, Rita was a prominent member of the community.

The Transgender Day of Remembrance, which was passed now, 5–0, aims to increase the awareness of people of color and sex who show courage and fortitude in the face of prejudice, discrimination, and violence.

Dana Johnson, a part of the County’s LGBTQIA + Commission, said that this statement “focuses us all on the need for resources for our transgender and nonbinary group users, the same access to resources as our right cisgender rivals.” We commend the Board of Supervisors for continuing to support the success of our transgender and nonbinary people by creating an inclusive society.

In order to do this, neighborhood organizations are banding together on Monday, November 20, at the San Mateo Public Library to celebrate loved ones and safeguard trans existence. Registration is necessary because of the restricted space.

The San Mateo County Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual Plus ( LGBTQIA+ ) Commission was also renamed by the Board at today’s meeting 5–0 to better reflect the diversity in the neighborhood.

Pine said,” Let us all come together to show our support for and our responsibility to building a society free from violence and persecution against transgender folks.”
