The Presidential Candidate for the Progressive People’s Party ( PPP ) in the 2020 general elections, Brigitte Dzogbenuku, says she is against laws being passed against people who practice homosexuality.
Because they perceive like differently from others, people who engage in Gay practices do so despite facing hate and prejudice, according to her.
After nearly three years of debate, Parliament eventually passed the very controversial Anti- LGBTQ+ costs.
The bill, introduced in the House years before, was overwhelmingly approved on Wednesday, February 28, following the completion of the third reading.
The act was finally scheduled to be approved by President Akufo-Addo.
However, Mrs. Dzogbenuku argued in an interview on JoyNews ‘ AM Show that it is inappropriate to pass laws that forbid people from leading their life as they please.
” So we should be thinking about how to cure that, not when we should be considering whether to jail them for their decisions.
” There are so many conditions under which people become or choose to be LGBTQ, but inevitably each of them is doing it because of everything they want, which will make them feel loved, have love, or be accepted, and for some of these folks, that is the only time they have felt accepted.
So let’s not move past the signs of it. Let us look at the causes”, she stressed.
According to Mrs. Dzogbenuku, persons also need to understand what motivates others to be in LGBTQ relationships.
She explained that everyone’s knowledge is unique, and there are many reasons why someone might choose to participate in LGBTQ actions.
The former political member emphasized that it is inappropriate to characterize people as unusual simply because they are members of the LGBTQ community.
