Russia seeks an extremist moniker for the “LGBT action.”

The Russian justice ministry has submitted a movement to the nation’s Supreme Court to outlaw the extremist activities of what it refers to as the “international LGBT people movement.”

Whether the agency’s speech refers to the LGBT society as a whole or to particular organizations is questionable.

It claimed that the action had displayed “extremist activity,” such as inciting” social and religious strife.”

Any Transgender activist could face criminal charges as a result of the restrictions.

Russian officials have previously used the term “extremist” to disparage rights organizations and opposition organizations like Alexei Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation.

The action will be reviewed by the best court on November 30.

One of the few Transgender activists also present in Russia was quoted by the Moscow Times as saying that the ban may make it impossible for LGBT organizations to operate and put activists and employees at risk of facing criminal charges.

It would basically result in criminal prosecution based only on one’s preference or identity.

  • Putin needs to find LGBT persons as a new victim.

According to experts, the action is a nationalist ploy to garner support before the presidential vote the following year.

Although he has not yet publicly declared his election, Vladimir Putin is widely anticipated to run for a second term in office.

Mr. Putin has repressed LGBT advocacy in Russia because he believes it is a part of the West’s assault on” traditional Russian principles.”

Following the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, this battle was accelerated.

All age groups were prohibited from “propaganda of non-traditional physical connections” under legislation passed in December. A 2013 rules intended for juveniles was expanded in this way.

Any good portrayals of same-sex relationships in mass media or advertising fall under the same category as distributing pornography, encouraging violence, or inciting racial, tribal, and religious tensions, according to the law.

Transgender rights were severely curtailed this year when regulations banning gender reassignment surgery was passed in July.

Authorities insist that Russia does not forbid “non-traditional physical relationships.”

Transgender rights were enshrined in law, and discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identification was outlawed, according to Deputy Justice Minister Andrey Loginov on Monday at a UN assessment of Russia’s animal rights record.

However, the most recent action is probably going to deeply worry a group that is already in danger.

The unnamed advocate continued,” Activists face pressure from the state, as well as from racist and transphobia groups, frequently enduring physical problems.”

Authorities were not only attempting to “erase us from the open field; they want to boycott us as a social party,” according to LGBT charity leader Dilya Gafurova, who has left Russia.

We’ll keep fighting, she said.
