Moscow ( AFP )- Russian officials announced on Friday that they want to outlaw the “international LGBT public movement,” which is part of an ongoing campaign against liberal-leaning organizations that has grown more intense since Moscow sent troops to Ukraine.

The International LGBT people movement has been labeled as extremist and is prohibited from operating in Russia, according to Russia’s justice ministry, which has “lodged an operational legitimate claim with the Supreme Court.”
The ministry did n’t say whether it wanted to close down any particular organizations or groups or if the term should be used more broadly to describe the LGBTQ community, causes, and people.
Since Russia started its offensive against Ukraine in February, the proposed ban has been the most recent in a long-running assault against LGBTQ individuals in Russia.
Russia has exposed its users to criminal prosecution by using the radical label against a large number of rights organizations and opposition groups.
The justice department charged “various signs and manifestations of fanaticism, including incitement to social and religious anger” against the “LGBT motion operating on Russian Federation territory.”
It said a court hearing was set for November 30 but did not say exactly what it meant by that action.
The news was criticized by the leader of the Universe human rights organization, which represents the LGBTQ community in Russia.
According to Sphere mind Dilya Gafurova, who has left Russia,” Russian authorities are once again forgetting that the LGBT+ group are people people.”
Authorities want to ban us as a sociable team, not only remove us from the public eye, Gafurova continued.
” Living in fear and silence.”
The oppression of the most vulnerable is a fairly common action for authoritarian non-democracy governments, according to Gafurova.
Gafurova continued,” We will remain our battle.”
Marie Struthers, the chairman of Amnesty International for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, criticized a “deeply cynical move aimed at dehumanizing and persecuting the whole Transgender community.”
Amnesty continued,” Life in silence and in dread of shame and imprisonment is the amount that the state wants to implement on many Transgender people in Russia.
Russia has intensified its strategy against LGBTQ groups since launching the Ukraine offensive, which is frequently portrayed as an existential conflict with European democratic ideals.
Legislators outlawed administrative actions and medical interventions that allowed people to change their identity in July.
The bill, according to senator Pyotr Tolstoy, was intended to “erect a barrier to the penetration of American anti-family ideology.”
The safety and wellbeing of transgender individuals in Russia are a concern for activists, they claimed.
A bill banning all types of LGBTQ “propaganda” was also approved by Russian lawmakers in November, a walk with far-reaching repercussions for book printing and video distribution.
People whose opinions differ from the strict understanding of” standard values” promoted by the Kremlin and the Catholic church has long found Russia to be an unwelcoming place.
In 2013, the nation passed a famous restrictions on so-called “gay advertising.” It was primarily limited to information made available to children, but it has since been expanded.
A legal amendment mandating that marriage be between a man and woman properly outlawed same-sex relationship in 2020.
Russia was ranked third from base by Rainbow Europe in terms of LGBTQ sensitivity out of 49 Western nations.
