S.C. deputies looking for persons of interest in death of transgender woman

After the body of a missing transgender woman in South Carolina was found, officials say they are looking for persons of interest who may be involved in the case.

Richland County deputies say they are looking for persons of interest in the case involving 20-year-old Shandon Floyd, of Mullins, who was found dead in a car on Nov. 14.

However, deputies aren’t releasing who those people are.

Floyd was reported missing on Nov. 9.

Her mother, Amecil Floyd, said she was last seen on Nov. 8 and pleaded with the public to help find her.

I want my baby, I just want my baby home, I want somebody to help me find my baby, I’ve been begging since Wednesday please somebody help me find my baby,” she said.

Floyd said she believes that because her daughter is transgender and due to her sexuality the case is moving slowly.

According to the family, Shandon was visiting Columbia and was staying with friends at an area hotel.

A friend said around 3 a.m. on Nov. 8, Shandon asked to use a friend’s car to take a man who had been hanging out with the group to a store. Surveillance captured a man and a woman exiting the vehicle that Shandon was last seen driving.

The Richland County Coroner’s office confirmed Shandon’s death date was Nov. 8, just after she was reported missing by the owner of the car she was found in.

The incident report states the male acquaintance told deputies who responded to the hotel that he was concerned that his calls were going straight to voicemail.

Officials with RCSD say they are working on several leads in the investigation, however, they still aren’t releasing where Floyd was found in the vehicle.

WACH, the first local station to report on Floyd’s disappearance, is awaiting an update from the coroner’s office on how she died.
