Parents claim that JeffCo Public Schools ‘ trans policy violates their parental rights after an out-of-state journey in Denver.
During a trip to Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. in June 2023, Joe and Serena Wailes claimed that their 11-year-old child was given the assignment of sleeping in the same bed as another trans girl.
Serena claimed that her daughter was “uncomfortable” due to the sleeping structure.
Serena, who was traveling with her daughter, remarked,” She was accidentally given the responsibility of sharing a pillow with an individual who identifies as female.”
Serena claims that just before going to bed, the transgender student told her girl who they were.
Serena remarked,” She went into the restroom and called myself.”
Wailes claimed that when she brought up the subject with the companion, they decided to transfer the transgender scholar to a different area.
The Wailes family contacted the Alliance Defending Freedom ( ADF), a conservative legal organization renowned for its work in overturning Roe v. Wade and defending Jack Phillips after he refused to bake tarot cards for gay couples, after they got home from the trip.
The companion allegedly “lied about why” they changed the place projects, claiming a” ill companion needed more space,” according to an ADF need letter to the school district.
The kids expressed their desire for clarification on the state’s transgender student plans to Denver7.
Joe remarked,” We just do n’t feel like it’s transparent. And you know, we need a plan that respects all children’s rights and protection as well as their appreciation for them.
A transgender student is not permitted to share a room with pupils whose gender identities conflict with their own, according to one section of the state’s plan. The legislation continues by stating that staff members are not permitted to inform others that a child is transgender unless they are required to do so by law or until the student declares it to be acceptable.
Even though the student identified as a child, it was certainly very miserable for an 11-year-old woman to know she was going to be sleeping in the same bed as him, according to ADF attorney Kate Anderson.
In its desire email, the ADF requests that the schools explain its policy and address whether parents have the option to change it when it comes to sharing areas. According to the letter, the region has until December 18 to answer in writing.
The school district claimed that the journey took place through a private travel plan and after the academic year, according to an announcement from our companions at The Denver Post. It appears that the child’s transgender standing was not known when place assignments were made, but from what we understand, as soon as it was known, rooms were adjusted, the declaration reads in part.
