MULTAN: State-of-the-art labs for transgender people have been established in Multan, marking a major step toward giving the underprivileged community access to high-quality education and professional training.

The United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organization ( Unesco ) and the Department of School Education South Punjab collaborated to establish the labs.

The city’s first transgender class, Government Girls Comprehensive Higher Secondary School, hosted the opening service.

The UNESCO-supported project’s facilities in these labs will provide training in a variety of areas, including computer skills, eating, decoration, sewing, and adornments.

In May of this year, UNESCO and the university education department signed an agreement that laid the groundwork for the development of these cutting-edge labs.

According to an established Unesco statement, the project aims to improve the educational facilities for transgender students enrolled in schools by providing them with both technical and professional education.

Yusuf Dalali Maknesi, the organization’s state chairman for Pakistan, claimed that these labs would ensure the holistic development of trans people by offering them not only knowledge but also crucial skills.

According to him, South Punjab School Education and Unesco have decided to work together more on cross-curricular initiatives.

Regarding the simple entry of the populace to the fundamental and necessary right to education in South Punjab, Unesco will maintain its collaboration with the Department of School Education, Maknesi stated.

Additionally, he expressed his satisfaction with the kids ‘ high caliber and vocational training and urged them to study diligently, stressing the pledge to give transgender school pupils free textbooks, paper, clothing, and shoes.

More Secretary Khawaja Mazharul Haque and other officers, including trans training expert Alisha Shirazi, were also present at the event.

Trans training is urgently needed, according to South Punjab School Education Secretary Dr. Obaidullah Khokhar, and his division is educating and preparing the transgender community with “exemplary” sensible steps.

In the meantime, Hina Chaudhry, the project’s principal investigator, provided insights into the effective” Accelerated Learning Program,” in which transgender students receive proper training and advance through courses based on their age.

Additionally, Chaudhry noted that transgender students had demonstrated academic excellence in graduation and middle exams just two years after the school’s founding.

She continued,” The kids are also trained in areas like sewing, dress designing, and beautification to further motivate them financially.”

Many leaders, teachers, and members of the trans community were present at the event, demonstrating a shared commitment to ensuring equitable and encouraging education for all.
