According to new legislation, transgender people will now have access to healthcare, which infuriates Lauren Boebert.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) is outraged about a new California law that expands healthcare access to low-income adults regardless of their immigration status, and she made her complaint all about transgender undocumented immigrants.

“California is now paying for illegal aliens to get sex changes,” she said about the law that went into effect on January 1. “There’s no punchline to this tweet. California is the punchline.”

Federal law bans discrimination on the basis of gender identity in health care. Many states have interpreted this as banning them from restricting Medicaid recipients from accessing gender-affirming care, and lawsuits against states that restrict access to gender-affirming care are working their way through the court system.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) called the law – which expands who can access all kinds of health care coverage in the state’s Medicaid program, not just gender-affirming care – “a transformative step towards strengthening the health care system for all Californians.”

About seven percent of California residents don’t have health insurance, including many undocumented immigrants, who often pay taxes on their income. California extended the coverage to undocumented immigrant children in 2015 and later added undocumented immigrants over the age of 50.

Oregon passed a similar law last year.

On X, people mocked Boebert for criticizing California despite her many personal scandals.
