Under Scotland’s fresh hate crime laws, an SNP minister has suggested that JK Rowling was face police investigation for misgendering transgender people.
Siobhian Brown, the party’s community health minister, had previously claimed using the pronoun “he” when talking about a trans woman would hardly qualify as a hate murder, but she has since stated that it will be a policeman choice.
Speaking as the Hate Crime and Public Order ( Scotland ) Act came into force on Monday 1 April, Ms Brown told Radio 4’s Today programme:” It could be reported and it could be investigated. Police Scotland is responsible for determining whether or not the police would believe it to be legal.
The legislation was passed in 2021, while Humza Yousaf was serving as justice minister in Nicola Sturgeon’s state. It has only just begun to be implemented after Police Scotland has spent time instructing its soldiers.
The new legislation covers contempt on the basis of age, illness, race, religion, sexual orientation and trans identity.
People were not listed as a secured team in the policy, in a shift that has been described as “astonishing” by animal rights activist Peter Tatchell.
On this level, Ms Brown admitted that “more work needs to be done” and said a hatred costs would be introduced.
With renowned reviewers like Rowling, podcaster Joe Rogan, and Elon Musk, the owner of X, problems have been raised about the lack of clarity in the concept of a love violence and potential threats to free speech as a result of the policy.
J.K. Rowling has received criticism for sexing trans individuals.
Rowling, a writer of Harry Potter, has frequently asserted online that transgender women are no women and that she will continue to use the phrase” call a man a person” despite what she described as the “ludicrous law.” She stated that she will not erase any social media posts that might violate detest crime laws.
Rowling has long been a harsh critique of the Scottish Government’s female reform plans, arguing the ideas encroach on women’s health.
She has recently stated that she would rather refer to a transgender individual by their chosen pronouns.
Her latest people column was with transgender activist India Willoughby, who she consciously misgendered.
” India did n’t become a woman”, she wrote on X. India is dressing up as a cruel adult version of who a lady is.
Willoughby responded to Rowling’s opinions, writing:” Really horrified by this. Hideous stigmatisation, which is troubling. I am just as feminine as J.K. Rowling. recognized by the courts and all I speak to daily. The controversy over whether J.K. Rowling is a transphobe has ended.
