Numerous state politicians have released statements outlining concerns about the safety of their children following a parent’s complaint about a trans personnel being present at a space camp in Huntsville, Alabama.
After Clay Yarbrough, a concerned parent, complained on X about the female identification of one of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center staff, as well as Republican Reps. Dale Strong and Robert Aderholt, all posted comments on Facebook.
As his child planned to attend the camp the following year as part of a school activity, Yarbrough, the parent of an 11-year-old Huntsville city school student, reported on AL.com that he became aware of a Space Camp crew member’s transgender status on Thursday.
According to Yarbrough’s post on Facebook, the transgender person “is a crew guide and a house check in the girls’ dorms and occasionally may be allowed to be alone in the halls at evening.” He included some of the transgender employee’s social media posts, some of which contained creative, aggressive, and sexual remarks about gender in the comments.

Additionally, he claimed that “this is not rumor; I spoke directly to the Space Camp VP/Director, and she confirmed this.” According to nearby news agency WAFF 48, the individual apparently identifies as female and works as a Camp Therapist for the Space Camp system.

Yarbrough claimed in an appointment with 1819 News that he had heard from other families who claimed Bowman had had access to the female floors at different camps. According to the report, Yarbrough called Robin Soprano, the vice president of Space Camp, and confirmed that the transgender individual may have access to the female floors.

One family commented on Yarbrough’s article, “My child attended two weeks ago, and one of the first things she said when she was picked up was ‘most of the counselors were gay or trans.'” “Even the ones who didn’t appear to be in her eyes wore rainbow flags.” Many parents, including myself, were unaware of this information and wouldn’t have permitted our child to attend. Men are not permitted in girls’ dorms and bathrooms.
Tuberville emphasized how important it is for children and young people to remain safe at the Space Camp in his speech on the subject.
In a speech on X, he wrote in a declaration, “I urge the Space and Rocket Center to ensure that its reputation as a world-renowned station remains untainted by the progressive agenda of today.”
Rep. Strong echoed his sentiments by claiming that the state of Alabama’s U.S. Space and Rocket Center has long been home to science-based education, which makes it crucial that they place children’s safety and well-being first.

He wrote, “I urge the Center to quickly remove the person and launch a safety review to take into account the possible damage and harm they may have inadvertently caused children.”
Rep. Aderholt even spoke up, stating that families want to make sure their kids are being looked after when they entrust them to others.
“My office immediately addressed my concerns to Space Camp leaders at the Space & Rocket Center after constituents alerted me to the situation at Space Camp in Huntsville,” he wrote in a letter. “Many students from my district attend Space Camp every year even though they are not in the South District. Our children and students’ health and well-being must always be prioritized above all other concerns.”
According to WAFF 48, “rumors circulating on social media about a Space Camp employee” were addressed in a statement from the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.
The statement read, “We would like to reassure parents, teachers, and the public that our top priority is Space Camp students’ safety and security,” according to the statement. “Any misconduct allegations are taken very seriously,” he said. We are attempting to find out the facts of this case, and we will then proceed as required.
The Space Center added that it adheres to all state and federal laws governing hiring practices and that station employees go through extensive national criminal background checks, including state, county, and provincial court-level information, Department of Corrections data, express sex offender registries from across the country, and multi-panel drug tests.

The statement read, “Children use separate bathrooms and individual rooms,” according to the statement. “We also offer 24-hour security on site, including regular foot and vehicle patrols, regular base and vehicle patrols, and controlled school and building access,” the statement continues.
