American Civil Liberties Union’s The Manner Forward for Trans Justice

States passed a record number of laws last year that restricted trans people’s access to health care, sport, people apartments, expression, and educational resources, particularly trans kids. The condition only gets worse as the new season approaches.

On January 1, 2024, regulations threatening access to gender-affirming care went into effect in a number of states. The ACLU is urging the Supreme Court to overturn a Tennessee law that forbids transgender people under the age of 18 from receiving gender-affirming health care and to rule in favor of an Indiana school’s decision to grant transgender students access to restrooms that are consistent with their gender identity.

We must remain vigilant, keep an eye on what’s happening, and take action as this extraordinary upsurge in attacks on the trans community continues. Chase Strangio, the ACLU’s assistant director for transgender justice with the LGBTQ &amp, HIV Project, is here to release us on the situation and what is to occur.
