A transgender employee at Space Camp in Huntsville has been the subject of a misogynistic campaign from liberal politicians and families.
Many Alabama politicians, including Sen. Tommy Tuberville and Representatives Dale Solid, Gary Palmer, and Robert Aderholt, posted social media messages that targeted a transgender woman at Space Camp. The content assert unsupportedly that the employees and other trans people pose a risk to children. Solid even went so far as to request that the Space and Rocket Center sack the staff and perform a safety review to take into account the possible “damage” caused to children.
The @RocketCenterUSA puts the health and well-being of children at the top of our nation’s minds.

The lawmakers ‘posts appear to have been motivated by Clay Yarbrough, a parent who first shared information about the staff on his Twitter page. According to Yarbrough, he claimed to have heard that a transgender staff had entry to the female ‘hostels while preparing to take his daughter to Space Camp. She confirmed that the individual was employed by the camp after speaking with Robin Soprano, the base’s director, which led Yarbrough to decide not to give his daughter there.
The U.S. Space and Rocket Center issued a declaration about the article, according to WAFF. The Center stated in the declaration that it has a number of standards to ensure the protection of children and that a thorough background check is done on potential employees.
The U.S. Space &, Rocket Center adheres to all federal and state laws governing getting procedures, according to the statement. Our station staff is subject to extensive global criminal background checks, including multi-panel drug tests, state, state, and municipal court information, Department of Corrections data, and state sex offender registries from across the nation.
Numerous national anti-discrimination laws safeguard trans employees at work.
Yarbrough and other commenters frequently use dehumanizing language, such as using the term “it,” to describe the individual.
Additionally, Yarbrough has a record of posting contentious and misogynistic Facebook posts, including a joke in support of Kyle Rittenhouse, who fatally shot and killed two demonstrators in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on August 25, 2020.
Mofs of TikTok, a well-known anti-LG social media page, picked up Yarbrough’s article and distributed the data on X, previously known as Twitter. Insinuating that their life is essentially physical, Chaya Raichik’s organization, Libs of Tiktok, constantly targets transgender and non-binary people, drag performers, and organizations hosting or employing them.
A children’s hospital in Boston is just one of the many places Raichik has targeted on social media where explosive hazards and/or intimidation have been made.
Former state senator and variety of Rightside Radio Phil Williams made an invitation to Yarbrough for his radio show to talk about the sensational time. Williams and Yarbrough regularly refer to the individual as a “hypersexual,” and Yarbrough asserted that she was one.
The claim that the worker is sexual is a part of a long-standing homophobic and misogynistic trope that claims LGBT people are inherently pedophiles and groomers.
Yarbrough added that he spoke with many parents who sent their children to Space Camp and were upset because they didn’t know the camp’s staff was employed there. However, those kids never complained about an employee’s conduct before Yarbrough’s article, and neither of their children ever complained about it.
Williams also claimed that state representative from the Republican Party, Mack Butler, would likely introduce Space Camp to pending legislation, presumably his “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
APR made no attempt to speak with the staff, despite their best efforts. None of the rumors that are aimed at this staff include the alleged” murder” of being transgender.
