After celebrating the reports that his trans-themed TARDIS symbol had raised thousands of pounds for an LGBTQ+ charity, David Tennant once more demonstrated his status as the greatest trans ally.
The Doctor Who sun has long been a vocal admirer of transgender rights, from pro-trans t-shirts that are memorable to standing up for LGBTQ+ right.
The 52-year-old professional appeared on The Last Hip and The One Show on November 17 while sporting a TARDIS button with the trans flag colors as part of his most recent act of unity. For the group of promotions honoring the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who, he was promoting his forthcoming return as the Doctor.
Eagle-eyed fans flocked to social media to compliment Tennant and learn where they could purchase the Tardis wire after spotting the liberal symbol.
Soon after, the badge’s creator, Dr. Jamie Gallagher, announced on social media that the Albert Kennedy Trust ( AKT), an LGBTQ+ homeless charity, would receive a whopping$ 18, 000 ( and counting ) from all badge sales.
Tennant’s answer to the excellent news was requested by Attitude newspaper during the Rolling Stone UK Awards on Thursday, November 23, and received the best response.
He said,” That’s amazing,” before downplaying his contribution to the fundraising effort.
He continued,” That really has to do with the guy who makes it.”
I’m sorry, but I ca n’t claim any credit for that. It’s just something that, in my opinion, is exquisite, significant, and fits the essence of Doctor Who. Therefore, it seems that the fact that pertinent nonprofits are gaining from it is something I’m extremely happy about but the n’t claim any of the record for.
He made the decision to wear a transgender TARDIS badge after raising controversy over donning an” Leave trans children along you absolute freaks” top, which sparked anger and criticism from anti-trans activists like Graham Linehan and Posie Parker.
While Prime Minister Rishi Sunak attacked the group in October, his wife Georgia Tennant spoke out loudly and proudly in favor of transgender rights.
The sun is undoubtedly right when he says that promoting transgender rights is in line with Doctor Who‘s core values. Yasmin Finney, Jinkx Monsoon, Mary Malone, and Pete MacHale are among the transgender players in the new incidents, which are directed by returning director Russell T Davies.
