Dave Chappelle is not afraid to make jokes about trans people. In fact, the comedian is doubling down in his most recent Netflix special, “The Dreamer.”
Chappelle faced intense criticism in 2021 for a stand-up special called “The Closer” in which he made jokes about the LGBTQ+ community. He particularly made fun of trans people.
30 employees from Netflix’s Los Angeles headquarters even left the building in protest when the woke mob demanded Chappelle be fired.
However, Netflix supported the comedian, and he is now returning for more. Chappelle declared at the start of the new special that he would never again make a joke about transgender people, but it was tongue-in-cheek.
He declared, “I’m not f-cking with those people again if you guys came here to this show tonight thinking I’ll make fun of them again.” It wasn’t worth going through the trouble. I’m not going to say anything negative about transgender people. That’s all, maybe three or four times.
The 50-year-old, who was always willing to push the envelope, then declared that he would switch to making jokes about “disabled” people because “they’re not as organized as the gays.” “And I enjoy knocking things over.”
Of course, the trans jokes were not removed by Dave Chappelle.
While touring the “Man on the Moon” set, he talked about running into his hero Jim Carrey. Andy Kaufman, a late artist, was portrayed by Carrey in the 1999 film. Carrey rarely strayed from his character while filming the movie. On and off the set, he pretended to remain Kaufman.
“I was really upset because all afternoon I had to pretend Jim Carrey was Andy Kaufman because I wanted to meet him. Jim Carrey was clearly there. Jim Carrey was there, as I could see when I looked at him,” Chappelle said. “I say all of that because transgender people make me feel that way.
