After the previous was abused online over a post marking International Women’s Day last week, Trans TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney has received a powerful show of public support from Lady Gaga.
Gaga and her photo were taken during a recent photo shoot for Haus Labs, the transgender artist and influencer, on March 8 and read, “Happy International Women’s Day,” according to Mulvaney. ”
Mulvaney, 27, later received what Gaga called “vitriol and anger” for daring to publish a picture honoring International Women’s Day. Some people claimed Mulvaney should not be representing girls because she is transgender, and many of the comments made were disparaging both Mulvaney and Gaga.
Gaga has long been accused of being transgender according to her long-standing support of LGBTQ+ people, but there have long been unsupported conspiracy theories.
Gaga posted the same photo as Mulvaney on her own Instagram on Monday (11 March), along with a lengthy caption that showed a rebellious display of support for the young star.
The song of “Rain On Me” wrote: “It is abhorrent to me that a Dylan Mulvaney and I post about National Women’s Day would be met with for hostility and anger.
It is not surprising given the significant labor that society also needs to do to honor and defend transgender lives.
In this time, I feel very safe of both Dylan and the trans neighborhood, who continue to inspire others with their unending grace and inspiration despite ongoing degradation, intolerance, and physical, verbal, and emotional abuse.”
She also derided the frequent use of the word “backlash” to speak to the “hatred” that Mulvaney has frequently experienced since a social media collaboration with Bud Light next season sparked outcry from racists.
“It is important to understand that anger is hatred, and that this hatred is also called violence, in my opinion. This is not a reaction. Gaga remarked, “This is contempt.”
Gaga noted that she does not advocate for the transgender community, but rather that she wanted to urge everyone to come together to honor us all on International Women’s Day and proceed to do so until “all people [and people] are celebrated equally”.
“May we all unite to be accommodating, warm, and loving. May we all stand up and accept the difficulties and richness of trans life, which we cannot possibly comprehend but you at least get to comprehend and feel compassion for,” she continued.
Gaga has long been a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ+ area and has long been regarded as a model for some LGBTQ+ people.
Gaga said in a 2017 discussion with Out Magazine that: “When I first entered the mainstream, it was the lesbians who lifted me up. Because of the queer society, I’ve been where I’m right now and they have committed to me.
“I genuinely want to major lesbian culture. So I constantly make fun of the fact that my real goal is to just make people queer.“
