Federal judge opens test in relation to Florida’s limits on gender treatment.

Tampa, Fla. ( NSF )- A federal prosecutor started a test on Wednesday in an effort to challenge Florida’s limitations on things like hormone therapy for trans people and puberty blockers.

Plaintiffs are objecting to state laws and regulations that prohibit transgender minors from receiving hormone therapy and puberty blockers to treat gender distress while enforcing further limitations on adult treatment. These laws have been approved by the Florida Board of Medicine and the FLB of Osteopathic Medicine.

During this weekend’s legislative session, Governor Ron DeSantis and the Republican-controlled Legislature passed the law. People seeking hormone therapy or gender dysphoria surgeries are also required to sign informed consent forms created by the skilled boards.

According to plaintiff’s lawyer Simone Chriss, Florida is discriminating against trans people.

Chriss claimed that the bans were motivated by prejudice and animosity toward trans people as well as the state’s wish for them to be unable to obtain the necessary medications. These factors were not supported by science or evidence.

Florida is one of many Republican-controlled state that has recently approved proposals aimed at trans people. Some of the most well-known debates have been about banning treatments for transgendered minors. Despite the fact that significant health organizations support the treatments, Florida claims that they are risky and unproven for children.
