State sport officials announced on Tuesday that a Florida great school has been placed on one-year operational supervision and fined$ 16,500 for allowing trans women to play on the girls ‘ volleyball team.
The Florida High School Athletic Association claimed in a three-page notice that the institution had broken both an organization legislation and the country’s Fairness in Women’S Sports Act, both of which forbid “biological guys” from participating in public school sports teams for women. The email states that during the 2022–23 and 2023–24 tennis seasons, the transgender student participated in 33 games.
According to the letter, the student athlete will be “declared unsuitable to indicate any associate school” through November 2024.
The Fairness in Women’s Sports Act, which was signed into law in 2021 by Republican Governor, forbids transgender women from competing on womens gymnastics team at public universities in Florida. Mr. Ron DeSantis.
DeSantis has ratified a number of laws, including limitations on gender-affirming attention, that target trans children and adults.
We applaud the quick action taken by the ( Florida High School Athletic Association ) to ensure there are serious consequences for this illegal behavior, Florida Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr. wrote in a post on X.
The director of the high school and other staff members were briefly fired by the Broward County School District last month while the investigation was ongoing.
The Florida High School Athletics Association’s decision today “does not alter the fact that the law preventing trans women from playing sports with their classmates is unconstitutionally rooted in anti-trangland discrimination,” according to a declaration from the lawyer on behalf of the student to CNN. The Association also claims that its claim to guarantee equal opportunities for student athletes rings hollow.
According to Broward County Schools, the athletics relationship has sent it a letter, and its investigation into the matter is still continuous. The email states that school administrators have 10 business days to appeal the ruling.
In Florida, student athletes must submit a pre-participation real review form, take an exam, and have it reviewed by school administrators before being submitted to the athletics association. Students must specify the gender they were given at birth on the five-page shape. How the scholar responded to the question on the type is questionable.
The ruling comes in the midst of a string of constitutional retaliation, especially in Republican-led states, against transgender students and their involvement in school sports. Additionally, a bill prohibiting transgender athletes from participating in women’s and girls ‘ sports at federally funded schools and educational institutions was passed by the US House of Representatives in April. The Democratic-controlled Senate is not anticipated to vote on the act, and the White House has threatened to veto it.
The American Civil Liberties Union claims to be monitoring more than 500 anti-LGBT costs across the country, including ones that limit access to public restrooms and certain types of care.
