In response to the shooting death of a 38-year-old trans woman, which is currently being investigated as murder, people of Minnesota’s Queer Legislative Caucus and the Hennepin County Attorney are speaking up.
Early this year, 25-year-old Damarean Bible was accused of second-degree death in Savannah Williams ‘ dying. She was discovered on November 29 in a courtyard in southern Minneapolis, just north of East Lake Street, suffering from headshot injuries.

Black transgender girls face an illness of hate crimes and are disproportionately targeted for assault at the crossroads of several disadvantaged identities. Savannah Ryan Williams’ life mattered; she wasn’t just a statistic. In order to create a condition where everyone, regardless of their personality or job, you live with dignity and security, we recognize her recollection by calling for fairness and passing legislation.
