At this point, it’s not shocking that Dave Chappelle made anti-trans comments in his most recent Netflix stand-up special. His current product essentially revolves around his dedication to addressing a community that is already underrepresented. The artist continued his trend of making fun of the transgender community with more unpleasant “quips” in “The Dreamer,” which debuted on Netflix on Sunday.
“You guys have come to the wrong show if you thought I was going to make fun of those people again when you came to this present tonight. I’m no longer messing with those individuals,” Chappelle remarked, stating that it wasn’t worth the trouble. “I’m not saying anything negative about transgender citizens. Even three or four times now, but that’s all there is to it. I’ve had enough of bringing them up. You’re curious as to why I’m sick of bringing them up. Because they behaved as though I needed them to be amusing. Well, that is absurd. I don’t require you. I saw things from a completely different perspective. You guys won’t anticipate this shit at all. I’m no longer making transgender jokes.”
Chappelle finally admitted that his new strategy was to make jokes about “handicapped” individuals because “I love punching down.” He then went on to perform several “jokes” about people with disabilities. Being in a wheelchair is evidently awesome if you’re Dave Chappelle.
The fact is, not only are his jokes not funny, but they are also not clever. Since he keeps working so hard to bring about this discussion during each special, it is genuinely worn out and depressing. He claims that trans people’s assertion that he “needed them to be funny” has made him angry. It appears that he does based on his most new problems.
After having a good time at the expense of the disabled community, he made the decision to target transgender prisoners by making fun of them by saying that if they were sent to jail, they might identify as women. Finally, he started talking inanely about being in a women’s prison.
“God forbid I ever enter prison. I hope it’s in California, though,” he added. “I’ll say, ‘I want the jury to hear I identify as a woman before you sentence me.’ I want to go to a woman’s prison.”
“You know what I’m going to be doing as soon as I get in there. Before I smack your sodding teeth out, give me your berry cocktail, woman,” he said. “I’m a child, just like you, bitch. Suck this lady dick I’ve got here, please. Please don’t make me defend myself. I’m a woman.”
Seriously, is this the best solution the creator of “Chappelle’s Show” had think of? The sketch show was hailed as a groundbreaking, forward-thinking comic line when it debuted in 2003. He is essentially your unacceptable, stupid uncle twenty years later who is baffled as to why he is no longer able to tell jokes.
The Emmy winner has repeatedly demonstrated that he won’t change and has no interest in trying to comprehend why his words are so hurtful. In order to achieve this, it is time to put this discussion behind us and concentrate on more crucial conflicts. You eventually come to the realization that there are more important things in your life than arguing with your unacceptable uncle. This is self-preservation, not letting Dave off the hook.
Dave Chappelle has acknowledged that he is a weary, 50-year-old actor who “punches down” to make money. Does it upset when his audience laughs loudly? They do, of course. But since he wants the attention, it’s time to stop performing this dance each time a new special is premiered. He doesn’t really give a damn how many people he’s hurting.
