Hitting LGBTQ rights in New Hampshire

Legislative bills attacking LGBTQ rights have been passed in New Hampshire, which is known for its phrase “Live Free or Die.” The New Hampshire Senate will presently hear the perilous passed legislation.

By granting permission to discriminate against and segregate LGBTQ individuals in schools and other settings, as well as making it more difficult for trans teenagers and their families to obtain necessary health services supported by every major health organization, the bills will destroy the right to equal protection under the law for LGBTQ individuals.

In a state that has previously made it abundantly clear that it supports and respects LGBTQ+ names, Linds Jakows, 603 co-founder of Equality, stated that the N.H. House’s failure to protect LGBT+ rights today marks the start of 2024. Trans children and their families should make their own healthcare decisions that are best for them.

Additionally, they shouldn’t be discriminated against or segregated in places like schools or medical facilities. As these harmful, unfair bills make their way through the legislative process, we will continue to fight to ensure that the rights of LBGTQ+ individuals are not violated.

Governor Sununu should swiftly veto any anti-transgender bills that are presented to him because, as he stated when signing New Hampshire’s nondiscrimination law in 2018, “it is the right thing to do.” Our primary value as Granite Staters is that every man deserves to live fully as they are, according to Executive Director at Seacoast Outright, Heidi Carrington Heath.

We are grateful to every senator who cast a ballot in favor of LGBTQ+ children and their families. In order to create a better future where everyone is understood, valued, and protected, we continue to encourage our elected officials to meet us.
