Indiana’s South Bend (WNDU)- A bill from Indiana that will be discussed in the 2024 legislative session calls for identification documents to reveal a person’s birth sex.
The word “gender” is replaced with the word “biological sex” in House Bill 1921, which was written by Representative Chris Judy, R-Allen County, for laws that use the term to describe the state of being actually male or female. Documentation like a status identification card or driver’s license is included in this. Additionally, it would be applicable in the cases of rewards, services, and gender discrimination.
Essentially, the bill would stop transgender people from updating their identification records to reveal their gender identity.
The bill makes reference to intersex individuals, but they are referred to as having a “medically factual biological disorder of sexual development.”
By stating that marriage is “between one man and one woman,” the bill also aims to alter the government’s position on homosexual marriage. Any other wedding, according to the bill, “is hole in Indiana even if the marriage is legal in the place where it is solemnized.”
Rep. Judy’s assistant has been contacted by 16 News Today for official comment, but she has not yet responded as of the time of publication.
For the time being, the act has been forwarded to the court committee.
