New information about the alleged gunman who attacked a Texas church on Sunday suggests that the person was anti-Semitic, an immigrant, and potentially trans.
Genesse Ivonne Moreno, 36, opened fire at Lakewood Church in Houston before being killed by off-duty law enforcement officers who were already present at the scene, as recently reported by The Dallas Express.
A 57-year-old man and a child Moreno brought to the church were the other two people shot that evening. According to ABC 13, officials have not confirmed whether Moreno or the officers fired the shots that hit the noncombatants.
According to NBC News, the boy was shot in the head and is now hospitalized in critical condition, while the gentleman, who had been shot in the foot, has since been released from the hospital. Authorities have since confirmed that the child is Moreno’s 7-year-old son.
After being briefed by officers who claimed Moreno was a natural woman and the family of the critically injured son, Fox News reported on Monday that the alleged shooter was an identified genetic man. However, the report was later clarified.
Confusion may have resulted from previous reports that Moreno allegedly used several names, including Jeffrey Escalante.
Trans people have been overrepresented among mass shooters over the past few years, according to a Crime Prevention Research Center study that was recently reported by The Dallas Express. The Southwest Ohio Critical Incident Stress Management Team’s producer, medical counselor Kathy Platani, made a comment about the potential link between the use of transgender hormones and aggressive behavior, despite the fact that the majority of people with gender dysphoria are no more violent than the average person.
According to Platani, estrogen can alter brain chemistry. And if brain chemistry is altered, behaviors may also change.
Regardless, it is stated that officials haven’t made it clear if Moreno was transgender and has ever truly identified as a man. The Houston Police Department was questioned about Moreno’s female identity by The Daily Signal, and prosecutors have not completely ruled out the possibility that she was transgender.
However, regulators have confirmed that “antisemitic works” were discovered after a search of Moreno’s possessions, and according to reports, the AR-15 she used on Sunday had a “Free Palestine” sticker on it.
According to Christopher Hassig, commanding officer of the Houston Police Department Homicide Division, Fox 26, “We do think that there was a parental disagreement that had occurred between her ex-husband and her former father-in-law’s home.” “Some of those people are Jewish, but we think that may be the source of all of this.”
Moreno was reportedly an El Salvador-born immigrant, according to numerous sources, but it is questionable if she entered the country illegally. She also claimed to have a lengthy criminal history that dates back to 2005. According to KHOU 11, she had formerly been arrested on suspicion of evading capture, possessing marijuana, assaulting a public servant, and causing bodily harm.
Additionally, Moreno apparently had a history of mental health issues because, according to Houston Public Media, she was detained in an emergency back in 2016.
