A former inmate at Rikers Island claims she was sexually assaulted by a man who pretended to be transgender, and the Department of Correction has ignored her numerous problems, according to the complaint.
According to the lawsuit, the anonymous plaintiff, Rose Doe, was sexually propositioned, groped, and raped by the prisoner on April 4, 2022, just days after being transferred into the “protective custody” dorm at Rikers ‘Rose M. Singer (RMSC) women’s jail.
The filing claims that Doe’s alleged perpetrator was “instructed to say that he was transgender by DOC staff in order to stay in the female down and have access to adult inmates,” in addition to lying about his personality.
The lawsuit, which was filed in November, states that the offender “informed” a trans inmate that he was not trans or gay, but rather was only there “to get p-y.”
Doe’s attorney, Nicholas Liakis, added to The Post on Wednesday, “We have some accounts from inside the prison that as the [transfer] request was being made… the [DOC] officer said something along the lines of “if you want to go into the womens facility, all you have to say you’re trans.”

Correction officials Jennifer Cruz and Rashida King, who are named as plaintiffs in the Bronx Supreme Court case, reportedly disregarded problems from Doe, next 21, and other inmates regarding the boy’s move to their product.
According to the lawsuit, “Defendant Cruz told Plaintiff and the other female inmates in no uncertain terms that she didn’t care what happened to them.”
According to the filing, the alleged attacker—who is not named in the lawsuit—had been connected to at least five claims under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), all of which were still pending at the time of the transfer.
Because “officers were often at their posts,” according to the match, Doe was especially anxious about the boy’s presence.
The filing states that the alleged male criminal “exited the bathroom stall with his erect penis exposed and groped” her buttocks within the first two weeks of his move to the bedroom and “started at Doe while he masturbated.”

Doe then penned two complaints, the registration states, about the female prisoner’s conduct.
Floyd Phipps, the acting governor of the RMSC, sent an email after reviewing the complaints, stating, I feel that person [Perpetrator] is not a suitable meet for… Because she feels unsafe, Rose Doe does not want to stay in the product.
According to the lawsuit, correction staff was still unable to eliminate the criminal from the all-female dorm.
The lawsuit asserted that “while Doe was sleeping in her bed, the Perpetrator took the opportunity to sexually assault [Doe] again… pull down her pants while she slept and beginning to rape her.”

The filing claims that Doe finally managed to free herself and alert the guard who was allegedly “sleeping” inside the polycarbonate balloon.
According to the lawsuit, which described how the female inmates threw the man’s possessions out of the product, the other women in the housing system did what Defendants consistently failed to do—they removed the Perpetrator from the Housing System by actually removing him from Plaintiff and ‘packing him away.
According to the lawsuit, DOC employees, including Rivera and King, then reportedly prevented Doe from seeking medical attention for the majority of the day while even refusing to discharge him.
The lawsuit claimed that the alleged murderer was “quietly” returned to his original bedroom the following morning, but not before Doe was relocated to the general people “as punishment for reporting her sexual attack.”
Doe, who was released from Rikers in August 2022, is currently suing the city, a number of DOC officials, the acting governor, and additional jail staff members for neglect and violations of legal rights.

Doe was “a goal for retaliation from Changes Officials” according to the lawsuit because she broke the “holding it down” policy or failed to report injustices while in prison.
The complaint claims that Rikers employees failed to “provide her with sufficient medical and mental health providers, failing to acquire, file, and evaluate evidence,” which violated their duty of care to Doe.
According to court documents, jail authorities informed Doe that there was “insufficient data” to rule on what had happened more than two months after the incident on April 7.
The town Department of Correction’s director stated that they were unable to comment on ongoing litigation.
The alleged perpetrator was moved to state prison in August 2023, according to the DOC representative. He has not been publicly identified because he has n’t been charged in connection with the attack.
Because her own legal situation is also pending, Doe made the decision to use an alias, according to her lawyer.
