J.K. Rowling criticizes the players in Harry Potter for supporting transgender equality.

J.K. Rowling has previously criticized prominent figures who support trans equality, including Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe from Harry Potter.

Following the release of a non-expert assessment of the NHS’s gender identity services by pediatrician Dr. Hilary Cass, this has become apparent.

Dr. Cass criticized the current program, stating that “we have no good information on the long-term results of interventions to manage gender-related distress.”

She also suggested “extreme caution” and “a clear medical justification for providing hormones at this point rather than waiting until one reaches 18,” as well as a review of the current plan to start administering hormones or estrogen to children at age 16.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Rowling posted a series of comments about the Cass review results and shared how she was “bloody angry,” believing that “many are involved, not just medics, but the celebrity mouthpieces, unquestioning media, and jaded corporations.”

One social media user responded to Rowling’s post, mentioning prominent figures who have vocally advocated for transgender equality, including Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe, both of whom are Harry Potter actors.

“Just waiting for Dan and Emma to offer you a very common apology… knowing that you will accept them,” the person wrote.

To which Rowling replied,” Not safe, I’m afraid. Celebrities who supported a movement that aimed to undermine women’s hard-won rights and who endorsed the transition of minors should reserve their apologies for traumatized detransitioners and vulnerable women who rely on single-sex spaces.

In an article published on the website of the Trevor Project, a non-profit organization focused on LGBTQ youth suicide prevention, Radcliffe recently responded to Rowling’s contentious remarks about the transgender community back in 2020.

“Transgender women are women,” he said. Any assertion to the contrary regarding transgender individuals violates their identity and dignity and contradicts all recommendations made by professional healthcare organizations, which have much greater expertise than Jo or I in this area.

According to The Trevor Project, 78% of transgender and nonbinary youth reported experiencing discrimination due to their gender identity. It is evident that we need to do more to support transgender and nonbinary individuals, affirm their identities, and prevent further harm.”

Watson also tweeted her solidarity for transgender people on the same day, following Rowling’s comments.

“Trans people are who they say they are, and they deserve to live their lives without being continually questioned or told they are not who they claim to be.

She continued,” I want my transgender fans to know that I and so many others around the world see you, value you, and love you for who you are.”
