Philanthropist has just donated millions of dollars to charities, including many across the US: a shift that has angered right-wing aircraft bigots.
The multibillionaire author and philanthropist announced on Tuesday (19 March) that she intends to give 640 million to charity.
The 53-year-old poet, who was married to the billionaire founder of Amazon (one of the richest people in the world) for 26 years, is reportedly giving the majority of the proceeds to “leftist” non-profits, pushing what the right-wing media is furiously describing as “leftist” non-profits.
Fifteen of these companies directly support the LGBTQ+ group. Additionally, 82 further organizations each received an unlimited $1 million from Scott.
On the basis of an online database that contained information about her funds, Scott chose which charities to contribute to.
In announcing the distribution of funds, Scott describes these organizations as “vital providers of change”.
Scott continued, “Specifically, she wanted to highlight the outstanding job that the organizations do in strengthening the tones and opportunities of people and families of poor or moderate means, and groups who have encountered prejudice and other structural obstacles.”
Some of the organizations Scott’s donations will benefit from include (supporting services to those living with HIV and those at risk), (working to dismantle legal, structural, and cultural barriers that contribute to gender inequity), and (one of the nation’s oldest LGBTQ+ community centers).
She’s also giving to parties promoting clean power, as well as slave advocacy groups, and organizations supporting immigrant rights, prompting the New York Post to attribute her gifts as “woke philanthropy”.
“Bezos’ wife is using the profits he made through capitalism to fund the rope that will hang capitalism”, complained one furious right-winger, Mike Gonzalez, a senior fellow at the conservative Heritage Foundation.
“These things that she’s donating money to – whether it’s trans ideas, helping laborers, slave rights, climate change – they’re all trying to transform our system aside from capitalism”, he added.
