Nevada governor under fire for provocative remarks made about trans athletes

LAS VEGAS ( KSNV ) — The efforts to push a regent in Nevada’s Higher Education system out of his role intensify.

This comes after Regent Patrick Boylan made a comment about trans athletes early next month.

” How many or do we have any gentlemen playing for any of our teams who play as people and who harm any of the ladies?” Does that concern NSHE’s” Do we have that problem?” During the board meeting on March 1st, Bonnie asked three sport managers.

Some members of the community were upset about the topic.

” There’s something known as the First Amendment. And it’s the right to free speech,” he afterwards said during the discussion after a student made a public opinion.

Since the conference, there have been two demonstrations held by students, personnel, and followers at College of Southern Nevada colleges, one of which is in Boylan’s city.

Dr. Joe Hassert, head of the CSN Gender and Sexuality Alliance, says they are calling for Boylan’s withdrawal.

He appears to be promoting the idea that transgender people are detrimental to other individuals and other group members, according to Hassert of Boylan’s feedback.

Alex Perdue, a transgender man and CSN scholar, believes Boylan’s status may impact the way transgender and another LGBTQ+ students are treated.

” When you have so many people in authority, and they create this cruel knowledge for other people, mainly minorities, they will use that power to create love for them and a lot of oppression”, said Perdue.

Boylan says he does n’t plan to resign.

Boylan was contacted by News 3 to find out what his message to students and other team members said about the transgender and LGBTQ+ area.

” Why would that be harmful if they believe that that is normal, then they should n’t be harmful”, said Boylan. ” I only asked the question. And if they think that’s the cause of their injuries. I do n’t want to hurt any student’s feelings. But why were they dangerous”?

He claims that his problem was misunderstood.

They simply jumped on the condition without realizing that my safety was a concern, Boylan said. ” And it’s not got anything to do with gender, culture, any. I do n’t care what you are, what you think you are”.

However, Perdue and others want another governors to act on it instead of Perdue.

Perdue argued that the other trustees must be able to make their voices heard. ” If they are in criticism, of course specifically. Or if they are in aid. If they’re in favor, then they need to be informed about trans people so that they wo n’t hurt anyone. It’s just to arise”.

A number of people have planned a second rally for the board of regents on April 19th, both before and during pubic reply.
