NY ballot initiative may ban families from approving boy’s trans operation, critics warn in flaming plan

The Equal Rights Amendment, a ballot initiative in New York, is receiving a lot of negative feedback due to its ambiguous speech, which allegedly prohibits parents from authorizing their child to have gender reassignment surgery.

In a media release released to Fox News Digital, Greg Garvey, the senior director of the Coalition to Guard Kids-New York, a party “dedicated to defeating the so-called Equal Rights Amendment,” said, “Any good lawyer does take one look at the Proposition One language and state, ‘you’ve got to be kidding me.

This vote program is written but loosely and ill that it could seriously hurt children and their families. This is no delicate-feeling equal rights article, it’s nothing less than The Parent Replacement Act”.

The Equal Rights Amendment was approved by the New York Legislature in January 2023, putting it on the November 5 poll this year for approval. Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul celebrated its passing last month, adding that New York do “fight bias” and “protect pregnancy entry” following the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, which ended the reputation of a legal right to abortion.

“These in New York, we will continue to take bold steps to defend the rights of New Yorkers,” and I applaud the New York State Legislature for making yet another important step toward incorporating the Equal Rights Amendment into the state law. I am glad that the traditional amendment is on its way to be presented to voters following year because I was happy to convene an Extraordinary Session of the legislature last year, Hochul said at the time.

According to reports, the proposal will codify abortion rights in the state constitution and add constitutional safeguards to those that are already in place for racial and religious rights.

Critics, however, say the proposal’s language is broad and would open the door to parents being kept in the dark over their child’s medical procedures, including gender reassignment surgery.

Proposition One would violate parents’ legal rights to learn about crucially important things happening with their kids, including controversial gender transformation procedures, according to the Coalition to Protect Kids, according to a statement released to Fox News Digital.

The ballot proposal will ask New York voters this November if they support adding language to the state constitution strengthening that people cannot be denied rights based on their “ethnicity, national origin, age, and disability” or sex, which includes “sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy, pregnancy outcomes, and reproductive healthcare and autonomy”.

“If entities cannot’ discriminate’ based on age or gender identity or expression, under the new amendment language, medical providers could be required to facilitate a child’s request to make permanent, life-altering’ gender-affirming’ decisions, and they would not need to consult with parents”, the coalition continued.

The group added that the proposal would require schools to permit biological male athletes to play on girls’ sports teams, and that laws that regulate the age of New Yorkers can purchase alcohol or marijuana, as well as those that “do not discriminate” based on age could be “weakened” as a result.

“Proponents of the amendment say they are interested in protecting abortion rights”, Garvey continued. However, New York State passed an abortion law in 1970, and everyone is aware that there is no danger of it being repealed or restricted. When advocates for the amendment claim that this right is in danger in New York, they are not telling the truth.

According to Garvey, “the proposed amendment opens the door for the government to make the most important decisions of its kind to children.” “The politicians in Albany have some explaining to do.”

The proposal, according to New Yorkers for Equal Rights, would better protect New Yorkers’ rights while setting precedent for other states to follow.

According to the New York Post, the group said in a statement last week that “the NY ERA would provide the most comprehensive list of protected categories of any state in the country.” This would safeguard New Yorkers’ rights as well as serve as a model for other states.

The group denied that the proposal would curb parents’ say in their children’s medical care.

“These claims simply aren’t true. According to Sasha Ahuja, campaign director of New Yorkers for Equal Rights, the goal of this amendment is to ensure that our fundamental rights and reproductive rights are protected and that they are never at risk of turning into a political football.
