On Sunday, a unique event was held on the Near West Side in Chicago to commemorate Transgender Day of Remembrance.
The Brave Space Alliance, Chicago Therapy Collective, Life is Work, and various institutions hosted the event at Venue West, 221 N. Paulina, which took place the day before the quarterly observance on November 20.
An annual worldwide celebration known as Transgender Day of Remembrance honors the remembrance of trans people who have perished as a result of violence and prejudice.
At least 26 transgender and gender non-confirming individuals were killed in the United States in 2023, and 88 % of those victims were people of color, according to the Human Rights Campaign.
The free event on Sunday included a number of listeners, on-site HIV testing, children shows, and prizes.
