New Hampshire’s Republican- controlled House approved House Bill 1205 Thursday in a generally celebration- line 189- 182 voting. The costs, titled the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act, then heads to the country’s GOP- led Senate, where it is also expected to pass.
House Republicans argued on Thursday that the expenses, which mandates interscholastic, professional, and athletic sports teams to design membership based on sports ‘ sexual assigned at birth, is necessary to protect the integrity of children’s athletics in New Hampshire and prevent the deterioration of Title IX, which prohibits sex-based discrimination in schools.
Democrats claimed that the measure and others like it unfairly discriminate against transgender student athletes by seriously restricting their ability to compete in school activities and isolating them from their peers.
It’s difficult not to feel depressed after watching charges like this get voted on week after week. But rest assured, the battle is never over”, New Hampshire Rep. Alissandra Murray, one of three openly transgender politicians in the state, said Thursday on X, originally Online.
” We will stop these costs in the Senate, and if not, we will remove all this damage when Dems are in control future time”, Murray said. ” We will not let this have”.
LGBTQ and civil rights organizations, including the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of New Hampshire, have also pledged to oppose the country’s plan as it passes the Senate, which is currently considering a nearly parallel costs.

Sununu in a separate speech said his opposition to the government’s plan largely concerned regional power. ” The best solutions are at the local stage, eventually up to each school and league — not a one- size- fits- all approach out of Washington”, he said.
Trans student athletes in the position are permitted to thrive on sports team that reflect their gender identity, according to the existing rules of the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association.
At least 24 says since 2020 have enacted laws that restrict trans student- performer participation, according to the Movement Advancement Project, a nonprofit organization that tracks LGBTQ policy. New Hampshire would be the first state in the Northeastern region to pass a statewide ban on transgender athletes if House Bill 1205 were to be passed.
