Survivor of the Bel Air killing described as “uplifting,” a transgender community supporter

Maryland’s Hartford County: According to court records, a woman from Bel Air was shot and killed on Wednesday during an altercation.

The incident, according to charging documents, occurred on Churchill Road in Bel Air on Wednesday while Brian Delen, 47, was delivering food. According to the records, Delen asked 52-year-old Meghan Lewis, “Are you waiting for a food delivery, sir?”

Lewis was offended and yelled at Delen, who allegedly assaulted her, according to his profile in the documents. According to the filing, Delen drove off, and Lewis followed on foot. When Delen stopped, the two allegedly “engaged in a physical encounter.”

Therefore, according to the documents, Delen used a gun to shoot Lewis in the stomach. At Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, she was declared dead.

According to the documents, Delen himself called the police and informed them that he had been attacked by an unknown person.

Lewis is described as “uplifting” and a devoted advocate for trans people in Maryland by members of the local Transgender community.

Lee Blinder, the executive director of Trans Maryland, an organization that supports the trans community across the state, said, “That’s just who she was as a person—she was always interested in uplifting our fellow community members.”

WMAR Lewis was informed by Blinder that she made a special effort to assist those in her community.

“She had also recently posted in one of the community groups offering for people to join her at her house for a holiday meal, and that’s exactly who Meghan was,” Blinder continued.

“To lose a community member to murder is incredibly heartbreaking. However, it occurs, unfortunately disproportionately, especially to transgender women,” said Blinder.

According to Blinder, the community is organizing a celebration of life in the future to honor Lewis.

“I believe she would want us to find joy at this very moment. Blinder continued, “People should feel free to express their grief in the way that feels best for them. She’s the kind of person who’d be a little mad if you’re just sitting at home crying.” We definitely need people to come together and celebrate Meghan in the way she would like to be celebrated, despite the fact that I have shed a few tears over the past few weeks.

Delen is charged with serious offenses, such as first-degree assault and second-degree murder.

According to Maryland court documents, Delen was released on bail. On January 25, he will have his initial hearing.
