A tampon designed for trans men and non-binary people is receiving criticism online from a Finnish producer of hygiene products.
In an effort to address the gender dysphoria that transgender men and non-binary people experience when it comes to menstruation, Vuokkoset introduced the product during Transgender Awareness Week. The goal is to alter how people perceive periods and lessen the problems they may cause.
The company cited research that indicates 93 % of trans people have experienced menstrual-related gender dysphoria in a press release as part of the campaign.
The product, which is rightly referred to as the Tampon for Men, is housed in a military blue box with an ingenious double meaning. When read together, the words” for men” appear on one side while” struation” appears on the other. Additionally, the business is developing a product that is completely gender-neutral.
” Menstruation felt strange and apparently bad when I was younger. According to campaign spokesperson and La specialist Dakota Robin, our tradition does not truly recognize the diversity of pregnant people.
This is unquestionably a positive development. We can even eradicate prejudice against female minority by changing behaviour and broadening ideas.
However, the company and product have received a rude backlash from anti-trans trolls, as is the case with anything that is trans-focused or diverse.
In social media posts, some people were completely contemptuous of trans people and their experiences with periods, misrepresenting and undervaluing the area.
” Men do n’t get their periods.” One unfavorable Instagram post read,” Simple really.”
” Periods do n’t just affect women; here are tampons for.” Men,” one person on X, which was formerly known as Twitter, bitterly wrote while using the villain icon.
Someone else said,” This era is beyond me,” with another saying they “do n’t even know what to say anymore,” and a third saying it was “peak clown world.”
The idea that condoms are only for people is absurd, of program. How’s the manpon,” wrote another man with disdain.
Others immediately targeted Vuokkoset and mocked the notion of marketing goods particularly to trans people.
This is brilliant, I say. One man sarcastically remarked,” Genuinely may have thought of this myself,” adding that there is” so much money to be made” off trans people.
The anti-trans account Two Genders One Truth, which has 5,000 followers, also wrote,” They put tampons inside a box that says” for men.” No, they have n’t invented something new for something bodily function men do not have.” Out of pure self-interest, businesses like Vuokkoset maintain a transsexuals idea. They gain from producing a business of confused, mutilated, and biomedical women.
However, despite the deplorable reaction, there were a lot more positive remarks that praised the campaign’s information and the product.
Thank you for this brave campaign, one Instagram user remarked.” Just beautifully executed!” Additionally, it should be noted that they did a fantastic job with the package design.
Another yelled at the enraged haters, saying,” If you came here just to get misogynistic, then I have only one word for you: cope.”
” Wonderful job.” The stupid remarks wo n’t matter in the end, another person said on Robin’s Instagram account.
Some described the goods as “revolutionary” and claimed it made them feel” seen.”
This is not the first instance in which a phase product has been targeted at individuals other than women.
The All Gender Collection, which includes the company’s first-ever interval briefs that can provide a packer, was created in March by trans masc model Oscar McGregor in collaboration with breathable clothing company Modibodi.
There is still a way to go before trans people and non-binary people who bleed feeling really included. At the time he told PinkNews, the interval industry is “moving in the right direction” and creating more products for gender-difference people.
As someone who does n’t recognize themselves in this gendered language, it can be a really challenging experience every month, he said.” The entire narrative surrounding the menstruation is very feminine.”
Beginning in early 2024, a larger supply of Vuokkoset’s Tampon for Men will be made available in Finland for the first time. Sales of the item will be given to Trasek Ry, a company that promotes physical health and gender diversity.
