Arizona Gov. On Tuesday, Texas-based vetoed 13 Democrat charges, including one that LGBTQ+ advocates claim would have legalized transgender people in the state.
Senate Bill 1628, the so-called “Arizona Women’s Bill of Rights, ” was introduced by condition Sen. Sine Kerr ( R ) in February. It would have replaced the term “gender” in state law with the word” sex,” which it had completely defined according to science, in place of the words introduced in various states like Indiana and Iowa. According to critics, the bill would have wiped out transgender and nonbinary individuals from Arizona’s common life.

Arizona’s Republican-controlled House of Representatives approved the bill in a 31–28 vote along party lines earlier this month, KJZZ reported. Hobbs, who had recently claimed she opposed the bill, received the act afterward.
In a statement earlier this week about her veto of SB 1628, Hobbs stated,” As I have said repeatedly, I did not sign regulations that attacks Arizonans.”
This is not the first day Hobbs has vetoed anti-LGBTQ+ policy. In April 2023, she vetoed S. B. 1005, which sought to help kids to sue class regions for enforcing LGBTQ+ friendly policies. In May 2023, she vetoed S. B. 1001, which suggested that transgender and nonbinary individuals should be required to get written parental consent before using nouns and names that match their gender identity. She vetoed two anti-LGBTQ+ bills in June, one of which would have forbid trans students from using the appropriate locker rooms and facilities at institution. She also described the other as a “thinly veiled effort to boycott books. ” ”
