As part of the Panorama video event, 19 young gay and transgender artists ‘ works will be on display this weekend at the Peabody Essex Museum.
According to Jasper Lior, co-founder of the Salem-based manufacturing firm Queer Videography,” We have an awesome trip of visual queerness and transness lined up.”
The event is a partnership between the Peabody Essex Museum, artist Mac Allen, and Queer Videography. Over the weekend, a variety of animated, live-action, and documentary short pictures, as well as both new and previously screened entries, will be shown.
Drag shows, including those from Salem’s Miz Diamond Wigfall, may be featured at the kickoff event on Friday, along with a airport, image options, and, of course, the film portfolio.

Adriel Bernal’s brief private narrative” Dear Nancy, Honestly Addy” is one of those movies. A” trans man getting closing from his younger self, who was once named Nancy and born girl,” is the subject of the story.

In high school and college, according to Bernal, he also produced another short films. He made the decision to write a documentary about his transition when he needed fresh work to post with grant programs.
Earlier in the movie, Bernal is seen perusing old pictures. With first photos and videos, Bernal claimed he aimed to get that innocence. He remembered wanting to be a boy and dressing in more male clothing.
” I just started writing, sort of remembering when the issue first arose? I’ve never felt out of place before. Naturally, I felt out of place when I was younger, like in secondary school, he continued.
In just a few days in January 2023, Bernal wrote and directed the movie, and it was immediately prepared to be submitted to events. It was presented at Panorama’s summertime checks after being accepted earlier this year.
Bernal remarked,” I was truly excited.” Really, that was my first film festival.
To enter the June event in people, he traveled from California to Salem. It was like,” Woah!” to be able to see my picture on the huge screen. And it was even more satisfying to hear someone say,” Wow, it’s like a beautiful account,” he added.
The festival’s organizers hope to bring gay people that sense of community and joy once more this weekend.
I believe it is crucial to have a place that is transgender room, focused on joy and celebration, and where we can all arrive together as our own neighborhood and simply be happy.
All of the festival’s included movies were created by gay or transgender people, but not all of them have a strong focus on identity.

The festival gives the Peabody Essex Museum a chance to connect with the larger gay community on the North Shore, such as the GLBTQ Youth Alliance.
