Trans Families and Seattle Reign FC Celebrate Trans Day of Awareness

Reign FC is happy to support and celebrate the Trans society on this Trans Day of Visibility and every day.

The trip, which was established officially in 2009, gives people an opportunity to highlight the trans and gender-diverse group and show them that they are not the only ones who are experiencing their journeys and experiences.

Steph Hirsch, Reign FC’s Community and Social Impact Manager, stated that one of the safest environments in the NWSL and our Academy is for female different personnel, athletes, and people to become exactly who they are.

We are always leading our work with an integrative and female diverse lens, whether it is Quinn living their truth on the field with our first team, our back office creating new transformative partnerships with organizations like TransFamilies, or the amazing SRFC front office and second team staff that serve our athletes.

Steadfast assistance for the transgender community has always been and will continue to be a core trait of the Reign. In 2023, Reign players wore Protect Trans Kids t-shirts during warmups for the next year in a row, after auctioning the shirts off to support Lavender Rights Project, an organization that provides life-saving policy and social change advocacy, extensive care, and legitimate services to Black, Aboriginal, and LGBTQ+ individuals.

Reign FC is proud to work with TransFamilies, a non-profit that provides connections for families with transgender and non-binary children, this season and beyond. They provide resources, support groups, and community for both parents/caregivers and their children.

“Transgender Day of Visibility is about community. It aims to raise awareness of the need for progress while honoring trans people. At TransFamilies, we believe in the power of community,” said Charlie Girard.

“We know that in community lies understanding, resilience, and, most importantly, joy. Families with transgender children can celebrate Trans Day of Visibility in authentic ways this year. We hope that this day gives families the chance to connect and celebrate by cooking a special meal together, going for a walk with the family in a nearby park, or watching a favorite movie together.

In order to promote gender equality in the United States, The Reign and TransFamilies teamed up in 2023 to hold a soccer clinic for gender-diverse youth, along with Sounders FC. The two-hour clinic featured short-sided scrimmages that were followed by a question and answer panel with the participants. At this gathering, 20 youth from a variety of genders gathered to support one another.

TransFamilies and Seattle Reign FC have a remarkable collaborative relationship that is a testament to genuine community partnerships. It has been obvious throughout our work together that Seattle Reign FC wants Trans youth and their parents to feel celebrated and supported, and we have heard this repeatedly from our families. We’re so thankful for this partnership”!

Seattle Reign FC and TransFamilies aligned in our collective values to support the right to play for all gender-diverse youth and families, especially as a former non-binary athlete myself when we first partnered with TransFamilies and Sounders FC in 2023 to provide our youth gender diversity soccer clinic. We are excited to work with this vital organization to ensure that, using our platforms, we can promote and support gender-diverse youth and their families, together,” Hirsch said.

We encourage fans to learn more about TransFamilies and how to support the organization as this partnership with TransFamilies grows.

“First, we encourage families with trans/nonbinary children to join our community! We offer virtual monthly support groups for parents based on their child’s age and other demographics, such as the well-known group just for dads with trans children. We also have spaces for youth to connect, including virtual movie showings, game nights, and our incredibly active Youth Chat Space hosted on Discord. Get involved at TransFamilies.org”!
