KARACHI:
The Gender Interactive Alliance (GIA) asserted at a press conference held on Tuesday at the Karachi Press Club that transgender people are being denied the right to vote because they are not properly represented on the general election voters list.
The GIA expressed frustration with the Election Commission’s voting registration and was represented by Bindia Rana, Shahzadi Rai, Zehrish Khanzadi, and Rabia of Aurat March. Shahzadi Rai bemoaned the fact that there was not a single transgender person on the ballot list and that the proposal to reset the registration process for them had been rejected.

The problem is made worse by the Shariah Court’s decision to stop issuing identification cards to transgender people in 2018.
In order to maintain their visibility and address their concerns at both the national and provincial levels, Bindia Rana emphasized the need for reserved seats for trans people in the general election, just as they were in Sindh for local government seats.
