According to new direction from the Vatican, trans people can be baptized in the Roman Catholic Church.
The advice was provided in response to affiliations, or inquiries about Catholic Church theory, made by Brazilian Bishop Jose Negri of Santo Amaro about LGBTQ individuals and their involvement in sacred sacraments.
Trans people may be baptized, subject to certain restrictions, and” as much as there is no risk of causing a public scandal or restlessness among the faithful,” according to the church’s Grouping of Doctrine of the Faith.
Although there is no prohibition in recent classical legislation, the ideological office also stated that” transsexuals,” as it refers to trans people, may serve as witnesses at a church wedding or as guardians at baptism at the local priest’s discretion.
