Transgender Day of Visibility falls on Easter Sunday this season, causing controversy

The day only happens to correspond with Easter this year, which has drawn criticism from conservatives in the Donald Trump campaign and in the faith.

President Biden’s proclamation, which he issued on Friday, is out of the news to some Republicans and spiritual conservatives.

In honor of the 15th Transgender Visibility Day, which falls on Sunday, also known as Easter Sunday, the leader urged Americans to unite to raise the voices and lives of trans individuals.

Since the March 31 title combines with the 2024 spiritual holiday, some are outraged.

Biden’s plan accused him of being indifferent to religion, especially given that he claimed to be a Roman Catholic.

The press secretary for the Trump campaign, Karoline Leavitt, said, “We call on Joe Biden’s failing strategy and White House to issue an apology to the millions of Christians and Catholics across America who believe Monday is for one party simply: the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) claimed on social media that the “Biden White House has betrayed the fundamental principle of Easter,” calling the action “outrageous and disgusting.”

According to a 2022 review from the Williams Institute, more than 1.6 million persons in the U.S. identify as trans.

The day of consciousness comes as transgender women’s rights have become more and more limited in recent years across the United States. There has also been a flood of policy against transgender athletes and drag queen players, and a number of states have passed bills restricting or outlawing gender-affirming care for trans children.

As part of his statement on Friday, Biden said: “Transgender Americans are part of the fabric of our Nation. Whether serving their areas or in the military, raising people or running firms, they help America thrive. They deserve, and are entitled to, the equal rights and freedoms as every other American, including the most important flexibility to become their true self”.

Adding, “But extremists are proposing hundreds of cruel laws that goal and terrify trans kids and their families — suppressing teachers, banning books, and even menacing parents, doctors, and nurses with jail for helping parents find care for their children”.

The Human Rights Campaign claims that transgender people experience murder at rates significantly higher than the typical person. Additionally, they are twice as likely to experience intense hunger.
