Utah is on track to join the list of states that will control exposure to restrooms for trans people. A law mandating that people use restrooms and locker rooms in public schools and government-owned structures that match their gender assigned at birth was passed by its Republican-controlled government on Friday. According to the measure, trans people can prove they underwent gender-affirming operation and changed their intercourse on their birth certificate in order to refute a claim that they used an illegal restroom. Additionally, the law mandates that public schools develop “privacy programs” for transgender students and other students who might find it difficult to use communal restrooms, such as a university restroom.
