The Dreamer, artist Dave Chappelle’s most recent Netflix unique, debuted on December 31, 2023, and it quickly gained popularity online. The main focus of the present was on his first years before he achieved fame. But, Variety claims that in the first 12 minutes, Dave Chappelle made fun of the transgender community.
Warning: This essay makes delicate allusions to transgender and disabled communities. Users ‘ judgment is advised.
On the collection of the 1999 movie Man on the Moon, the actor related how he first met professional Jim Carrey. In the movie, Carry portrayed the famous artist Andy Kaufman. Dave Chappelle did, however, mention that he was “very dissatisfied” while speaking to Carrey, who had been posing as Kaufman the whole day, during his set. After that, he added:
“Trans people make me feel that way.”
He even made fun of the disabled community, which has since generated controversy website, in addition to mocking trans people. What he said about them is as follows.
I am performing all handicapped quips now. He chuckled, “I love punching over.”
Online criticism of Dave Chappelle for his contentious most recent Netflix particular
As part of his most recent Netflix exclusive The Dreamer, comedian Dave Chappelle has gained notoriety for his quips about the transgender and differently abled areas. He started the present with the contentious Jim Carrey joke before addressing the controversy surrounding his anti-trans material from the previous few comedies.
You guys have come to the wrong show if you thought I was going to make fun of those people again when you came to this present evening. I no longer f*ck with those individuals. It wasn’t worthwhile to go through the trouble. I’m not going to say anything about them. Perhaps three or four times now, but that’s it, he muttered.
Dave Chappelle continued by saying that he was “tired” of talking about transgender people that, in his opinion, “these persons acted like I needed them to be funny.”
“I don’t require you. I’m about to get a completely new perspective. You guys won’t anticipate this sh*t. I’m no longer making transgender jokes, the comics continued.”
He then declared that he would move on and make jokes about the “handicapped” group because they weren’t “while organized as the homosexuals” and because “punching down” was his favorite pastime.
He made reference to Madison Cawthorn, a paraplegic and former North Carolina GOP representative, and said that when he first met him, “he just “walked away” just to “see me do something I couldn’t do.” The 50-year-old cartoon added that the alleged meeting took place at an o*gy.
As a result, Dave Chappelle returned to the trans subject and discussed how he was “trying to repair” his relationship with the neighborhood so that they wouldn’t assume that “like” him. In reality, the actor claimed that because he was conscious of how “gays love works,” a play was written for them.
Although the play is really sad, it is moving. Unfortunately, the word in the story is n*gga, and it is about a trans Black woman. It makes you cry more. She passes away from loneliness at the play’s conclusion because white liberals do n’t know how to approach her. It’s depressing.
Dave Chappelle even considered the possibility that he would prefer to serve time in prison in California. He went on to describe how he would inform the judge of his gender identity and commit him to a women’s prison prior to his imprisonment.
You know what I’m going to be doing as soon as I get in there. Before I gnash out your mother*cking smile, grant me your grapes cocktail, b*tch. B*tch, I’m a child, just like you. Come on over and swallow this girl I’ve got. Please don’t demand an explanation from me. Chappelle jokingly said, “I’m a girl.”
Chappelle encountered online criticism after his viewpoint on the transgender and impaired areas went viral. Here are a few of the responses in this regard from the tweet’s post part by @Esqueer_.
It’s interesting to note that during his Netflix unique, Dave Chappelle also criticized Will Smith and Chris Rock for their Oscars.
He even mentioned being attacked on stage at the Hollywood Bowl in 2022 at one place. When the situation became more complicated, he said, “It was a trans man!” The prank backfired, and the audience exclaimed, “Boo,” ostensibly to lighten the mood. It’s L. A. We enjoy transgender persons.
He continued to describe the affair, claiming that the attacker assaulted him after being provoked by his LGBTQ jokes and carrying what appeared to be a knife. Knowing the intruder was a bis*xual, Dave Chappelle added that he “could have been r*ped.”
The Dreamer, the writer’s sixth Netflix special, was filmed in front of a life audience at the Lincoln Theater in Washington, D.C. It’s interesting to note that Chappelle first made fun of the transgender community in the 2021 unique The Closer, which led to resignations and protests at Netflix. The controversy surrounding his 2019 Netflix unique, Sticks &, Stones, was similar.
According to Variety, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos first defended Dave by saying he had the freedom to write his jokes, but eventually admitted to messing up with his response.
