With a new show, the El Paso Museum of History honors transgender and nonbinary personalities.

On December 7, at 5 p.m., the El Paso Museum of History celebrated the beginning of its new exhibit, “The Authentic Selves: Celebrating Trans and Nonbinary People and Their Families.”

By sharing the tales of trans, non-binary, and gender diverse people, this traveling exhibit aims to explore gender identity and variance. It tells the stories of its subjects using both photographs and first-person accounts.

Several of the included artists called in through Zoom during the opening to share their stories and works of art.

According to PFLAG El Paso, their goal is to “evoke connection and emotion to make this planet a safer place for transgender and gender-nonconforming people.”

The exhibit will be on display at the El Paso Museum of History in the Juan & Linda Uribe Community Gallery Pop-up Exhibition space through January 6, 2024.
